‘Songs of Summer’ at The Terraces

Sunday April 10, 2016

The Weekly folk music fest “Songs if Summer” is back to bring some good ol’ homegrown tunes for the balmy summer nights.

“Song of Summer,” conceived by 22 Tango Records and co-presented by Ayala Center Cebu, was created to provided  a space for local singer-songwriters and music acts to and celebrate the homegrown sound.

“Songs of Summer” is a spin-off of 22 Tango Records’ Pop-up music series “Folk City” which started in 2013. In the last two years, the series has toured aroung the metro, providing a listening experience that highlights songwriting talents of Cebuano artists. “Folk City” has been at the mall, the park, the local farmers’ market and one of our beautiful beaches.

Steering away from the usual “cover song”- dominated live music experience, “Folk City” is a platform for unique live performance opportunities, showcasing Cebu’s emerging talents and well-loved music acts.

Now on its second year, “Songs of Summer” will feauture familiar names such as Lourdes Maglinte, Mary Anchit, Ella Melendez, Mother Folker and Vincent Eco. The city’s favorite band  of brothers, The Wong-goys are set to share new tracks from their upcoming sophomore album too. Olus, the multi-instrumentalist duo The Labrats will emerge as Canada-based member Cilee Kuizon is in town for a visit. Also in the line up are My Dragon Eats Cat Food, Jessica McYorker, Cuppa Folkers regulars Kurt Ebarita and Micmic Kindica, with his band Three-legged Men, Honeydrop, Snubear, Loop and Bethany. Silingan ni Felicity and 2B Boys are also in the mix, along with some exciting new solo acts coming our way this May.

“Songs of Summer” is happening all Wednesdays of April and May, 8 p.m. at Ayala Center Cebu. The stage will be set up under the pretty acacia tree at The Terraces with a set design by Cuckoo Cloud Concepts to complement the whole listening experience.

Spend your summer nights under the diamond sky while listening to tales of the heart and soul through poignant poetry and beautiful melodies. For the latest event details, visit www.22tangorecords.com. (CEBU DAILY NEWS)
