Run to fund poor kids’ future

Wednesday March 30, 2016

The Primary Homes Inc. (PHI) will hold the sixth edition of its annual fun run—Home Run 2016—on April 23 at the Sumilon Road, Cebu Business Park.

The running event, with the theme “Run To Build Their Future,” will be for the benefit of Primary Structures Educational Foundation Inc. (PSEFI), a non-stock, non-profit organization.

The PSEFI is under the trade name School of Knowledge for Industrial Labor, Leadership and Service (Skills).

All the proceeds of the event will go to PSEFI-Skills and will be used by the foundation for the technical training of their scholars, who are mostly out-of-school youths, out-of-school adults and other marginalized sectors of the community. Last year, the event was able to raise around P400,000 for the foundation.

Paullette Liu, the COO of PSEFI, said the run will help open opportunities for people who are part of the marginalized sectors of the community. She said the PSEFI now has 400 scholars and students.

“I invite the runners to join us on this run and help make a difference. By registering, they can help the scholars,” she said.

The organizers said that for this year they are aiming to raise P500,000 for the beneficiaries.

“If we will get more this year, we will be more than happy and will allocate that for our senior high program,” she said.

Race director Joel Baring of Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts (Safe) said that there are 1,500 to 2,000 slots available for the race. Last year, they had 1,400 runners.

The fun run is open to all runners and will have the men’s and women’s 3-kilometer, 6K and 12K categories. All the 12K finishers will each receive a medal while the 6K finishers will each get a tag.

For the employees and business partners of PHI, there are added divisions to choose from—the 3K duo, 3K quad and 6K duo.

Baring said a total of P50,000 cash prize is at stake. He said they will be using the same route as last year’s.

The event will also have Pinoy games, dance and zumba activities.

Registration fee is at P250 for the 3K, P350 for the 6K and P450 for the 12K, inclusive of race singlet, race bib, snacks and giveaways.

Registration starts today and entry forms are available at the PHI SM office at 2nd level of SM City Cebu and Runnr Store at Ayala Center Cebu. (SUN.STAR CEBU)
