Our active involvement and leadership in the business community and various socio-civic organizations and our partnerships with the local government units and major national agencies, magnified our contribution to the economy of Cebu and to the larger community particularly in the areas of tourism and ICT, making it the preferred investment and leisure destination south of Manila.
Aligned to our own social initiatives are actions taken to support and partner with various organizations to help spur the development of Cebu. CHI has extended its dynamic agenda to include the larger community instrumental in shaping Cebu's favorable business climate. Specifically, the support has been largely extended from the previous years, until 2007 and the present through the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Department of Tourism (DOT) Central Visayas, Cebu City Tourism Commission (CCTC), Sinulog Foundation, among others. CHI participated significantly in the programs of these organizations, in 2007. CHI seized the opportunity to be part of the business community leadership circle in Cebu. CHI president Francis Monera served as CCCI president and catapulted the chamber to the Hall of Fame after CCCI was adjudged Most Outstanding Chamber for three consecutive years as a model business support organization. The Company's support to the programs of CCCI, has contributed to Cebu's growth in the spheres of entrepreneurship, tourism and ICT.
Upon the Company's suggestion, a balikbayan program, Balik Cebu, of the Cebu City Tourism Commission was started in 2001. Since then, the program has been institutionalized with partnerships among CCTC, DOT, the Sinulog Foundation, Cebu Association of Travel Operators and Cebu Daily News. About 300 balikbayans have been hosted during the Sinulog week for seven consecutive years now. This program attracted strong media attention and an even stronger following among balikbayans who look forward to this CHI-hosted event every year. Through Balik Cebu, CHI joins the local tourism thrust and commits partnership with the local government.
